Open Food Facts
When a barcode is not in our own catalogue, our backend may retrieve its product name, brand, package text and categories from Open Food Facts. The app does not retrieve images, ingredients or nutrition data. A reviewed barcode and German product name may later be submitted to OFF only through a deliberate administrator action; scans never cause automatic writes.
Unknown barcodes
Unknown valid barcodes are presented for moderation only after reports by four distinct accounts and another unsuccessful OFF check. Manually entered names are anonymous suggestions only. Approval creates a separate mapping in our own product catalogue.
Separate databases
Our administered catalogue, private household labels and the Open Food Facts cache remain technically separate. OFF results are never automatically converted into proprietary catalogue products. Household, user, scan and purchase data are never part of the open export.
Freshness and verification
Positive OFF results are normally cached for up to 30 days and confirmed misses for up to 24 hours. During a temporary outage, a marked positive result no older than 180 days may be used. Always verify product identity, allergens and manufacturer information on the physical product.

The separate OFF cache is shared under the Open Database License v1.0. Its daily export contains only OFF fields and derived categories:
